San Francisco struck only 30,000 examples of the 2025 Florida American Innovation Dollar in Reverse Proof format, the lowest-mintage entry of the four 2025 Florida strikings and a continuation of the 30,000-piece floor first set by the 2024 Alabama, Illinois, Maine, and Missouri reverse proofs. Reverse Proof inverts the usual recipe: fields are frosted and devices are mirrored, the opposite of the Cameo proof's mirrored fields and frosted devices. The reverse, designed by Ronald Sanders of the Mint's Artistic Infusion Program and sculpted by Medallic Artist Eric David Custer, depicts a NASA Space Shuttle lifting off from Launch Complex 39 at the Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island. FLORIDA is inscribed incuse within the smoke at the 6 o'clock position, the final letter rendered as the Greek capital lambda (Λ).
On a Reverse Proof striking the polished orbiter and external tank read as bright mirrored relief against a uniformly frosted sky, the smoke at the base shows polished stroking against a frosted background, and the incuse FLORIDA sits as polished letters set into the frosted plume. Inspection concentrates on the polished surfaces, since any handling mark or planchet flaw shows up far more visibly on a mirrored device than on a frosted one. PCGS, the Professional Coin Grading Service, and NGC, the Numismatic Guaranty Company, both certify these with a Reverse Proof designation rather than a Deep Cameo modifier. The 2025-S Reverse Proof was released only as part of the 2025 American Innovation Dollar Reverse Proof Set with Arkansas, Michigan, and Texas, with no individual sales offering, forcing every collector who wants this issue to acquire all four 2025 reverse proofs together.
For a date-and-mintmark Innovation Dollar set the 2025-S Reverse Proof is the scarcest of the four Florida strikings by a wide margin: 30,000 against 800,000 for the regular proof and 1,120,000 each for the Philadelphia and Denver business strikes. The badge stays Regular per site policy on proof entries, with the scarcity story carried in the narrative rather than in the badge. Set-original packaging trades at a premium over face, and certified PR70 examples carry a further premium that tracks population growth rather than series rarity. For broader program context and the year-by-year design rotation, see the American Innovation Dollar series history.
