About this coinHistory

The 2026-S Minnesota Proof is the San Francisco standard proof striking of the year's third 2026 design and ships in two channels: the single-design Minnesota proof set and the combined American Innovation Dollar Proof Set, which bundles it with the Iowa, California, and Wisconsin proofs. The reverse, designed by Beth Zaiken of the Mint's Artistic Infusion Program and sculpted by Medallic Artist Joseph V. Noorigian, depicts a 1940s-era truck with an early front-mounted refrigeration unit, with side-of-cargo icons standing in for the temperature-sensitive goods made transportable by the technology. Reverse inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, MINNESOTA, and MOBILE REFRIGERATION. The proof finish renders the truck and refrigeration unit as frosted devices against deeply mirrored fields, with the sharpest read on the cab, unit housing, and the row of icons that compress fine detail into a small area.

Standard proof San Francisco strikes typically certify Cameo or Deep Cameo under PCGS and NGC criteria, where Cameo describes the strong contrast between mirrored fields and frosted devices and Deep Cameo describes the same contrast at maximum intensity. Most American Innovation Dollar proofs through the program's first eight years have certified PR69 Deep Cameo or PR70 Deep Cameo when submitted out of original Mint packaging, and the 2026 Minnesota issue should follow the pattern. The 2026 obverse adds a Liberty Bell privy mark with the inscription 250 commemorating the U.S. Semiquincentennial, alongside the standard stylized gear privy mark used since 2019; worth a careful inspection of the privy element on a fresh proof. Edge lettering reads YEAR + MINTMARK + E PLURIBUS UNUM.

For collectors building the set across all four formats per design, the 2026-S Proof is the broadly available proof channel and the lower-cost San Francisco strike compared to the matching Reverse Proof. Final mintage will publish from the Mint's annual production report; recent standard proof totals have run roughly twenty-five to thirty times the matching reverse-proof figures. The badge stays Regular per program convention; proof entries are not classified Key Date and the standard proof's role in the Minnesota run is conveyed in the prose. For the program's product channels and design rotation, see the American Innovation Dollar series history.
