About this coinHistory

The 2026-S Minnesota Reverse Proof is the San Francisco reverse-proof striking of the mobile-refrigeration design and ships exclusively in the 2026 American Innovation Dollar Reverse Proof Set, a four-coin product bundling Minnesota with the year's Iowa, California, and Wisconsin reverse proofs under the strict household ordering limits the Mint applies. The reverse, designed by Beth Zaiken of the Mint's Artistic Infusion Program and sculpted by Medallic Artist Joseph V. Noorigian, depicts a 1940s-era truck with an early front-mounted refrigeration unit, side-of-cargo icons standing in for the temperature-sensitive goods made transportable. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, MINNESOTA, and MOBILE REFRIGERATION. The technology traces to Frederick McKinley Jones of Hallock, Minnesota, whose 1940 patent and the Thermo King business that grew from his work with U.S. Thermo Control Company sit behind the design.

The reverse-proof finish inverts the standard proof contrast: fields are frosted, devices are mirrored. On the Minnesota design the inversion reads especially well across the truck body, which catches light as a bright reflective shape against the satin field, and across the polished icons along the cargo box, which gain a metallic sheen they cannot carry under the standard proof. The cab silhouette and front-mounted refrigeration unit hold the densest detail and benefit most from the polished-device finish. The 2026 obverse carries a Liberty Bell privy mark with the inscription 250 commemorating the U.S. Semiquincentennial, alongside the standard stylized gear privy mark used since 2019. Most examples certify Cameo or higher under PCGS and NGC criteria, with PR70 routine given the small mintage and careful capsule-and-set packaging.

Market position reflects both the closed reverse-proof distribution and the program's lean reverse-proof ceiling: 2024 and 2025 reverse-proof issuance settled at thirty thousand pieces per design, the lowest sustained floor in the program's run, and the 2026 Minnesota figure will publish in the Mint's annual production report. The badge stays Regular per program convention; reverse proofs are not classified Key Date, with the small mintage conveyed in the prose. Recommended certified at PR70 for registry pursuits and raw inside the original four-coin set for collectors keeping the year's program intact. For the program's reverse-proof set structure, see the American Innovation Dollar series history.
